Garry Betty, '79, passed away on January 2, 2007 at the age of 49. Garry served as president and CEO of EarthLink from 1996 to 2007. During his tenure, Garry transformed EarthLink from a small regional ISP with fewer than 100,000 members to a national brand with more than five million subscribers. 
 
Garry was also a special friend to the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. He served on its External Advisory Board and also delivered the 2002 ConocoPhillips/C. J. "Pete" Silas Ethics Lecture. Additionally, Garry served on the Georgia Tech Board of Trustees Foundation. Garry was an active and dedicated member of the Georgia Tech community and will be missed by all who knew him.
