Biography

Dr. Sommerfeld's teaching and research interests lie primarily in the field of computer-aided process design and simulation. Other interests are in the areas of reaction kinetics, energy conservation, cost estimation, applied mathematics, and process control. He served as a visiting lecturer of chemical engineering in 1973 at the Loughborough University of Technology in England and in 1979 and 1984 at the Universidad de Concepcion in Chile. Before joining the Georgia Tech faculty in 1970, he served in various engineering and management positions in the chemical process industry. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Georgia.
